What is electrolysis hair removal? This proven technique is a safe, relatively painless, permanent way to eliminate unwanted hair without the risk of scarring or scabbing. You'll see fantastic results in just a few months. Our electrologist, Alina Aprea, is fully certified to perform your services. We offer our services to clients with all hair types.
Alina Aprea has a very gentle touch, and her many Electrolysis clients can attest to their great results and comfort level. Even if you have had laser, you know that it only reduces the hair. Electrolysis (permanent hair removal) can completely eliminate any unwanted, excess hair. So if you want to safely remove hair permanently, call me for a free consultation and book an appointment for the treatment.
Electrolysis is an older technology that is still widely used today. In fact, it is the only hair removal method approved by the FDA to be effective in creating permanent hair loss.
In electrolysis, a specially designed thin probe is placed directly into each hair follicle. An electrical current is then passed through the tip of the probe. This current produces a brief burst of heat that destroys the hair-producing cells at the base of the follicle. The hair shaft then loses its source of growth and falls out. Since it is directly applied to each hair, electrolysis is effective on all hair colors and types.
Laser hair removal is distinctly different from electrolysis. It uses laser technology that results in permanent hair reduction after a series of sessions.
Since laser hair removal does not involve inserting a probe into each individual hair follicle, hair removal treatments are much faster than with electrolysis, especially given that a greater area can be treated in the same period of time. Those who have undergone both treatments report that the amount of discomfort experienced during each procedure is about the same—although many comment that post-procedure discomfort is shorter with laser hair removal than with electrolysis.
Electrolysis can effectively treat most regions of the body where unwanted hair grows. Clients most commonly seek treatment for the:
Everyone interprets the sensation of electrolysis differently. Some people are very sensitive and feel stronger levels of pain, while others feel no pain at all. Some clients even fall asleep while they are being treated! With more and more treatments, you learn what to expect and adjust to how it makes you feel. The level of pain you experience during a single treatment can depend on many factors (such as pain tolerance, time of month – for women, stress, caffeine and many others).
Are there any risks or complications of electrolysis?
Electrolysis is very safe. Very slight risks of infection (from an unsterile needle) or scarring exist if the electrolysis is not done correctly. These risks are very low if you choose a certified, professional electrolysis practice.
You may have a slight reddening of the skin during or right after treatment. It’s very short-lived. People with darker skin may have temporary dark spots on their skin. The spots fade over time, so don’t use bleaching cream on them.
BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT
* Drink Lots of Water!!! The day before and the day of the treatment. The water within your tissues acts as a conductor for the electricity.
* Hygiene is extremely important, please shower before treatment, especially for private area(s).
* No make-up on the face if working on the face area.
* No deodorant, if working on the axillae.
* No caffeine, these cause sensitivity. Note, you are on your menstrual cycle, this will add sensitivity.
* Stop shaving 3-4 days before your first appointment for facial areas and 4-5 days on all body areas you would like to be cleared.
What do I need to know after the treatment?
For the first 24 hours after your treatment, try to avoid activities that may irritate the hair follicles, including:
AFTER TREATMENT
* Continue to Drink Plenty of Water.
* Do Not Touch the treated area with your fingers, this may cause white heads. If White heads occur, apply an Epsom Salt compress, (Mix 1 tablespoon of Epsom Salt with 1/2 cup of warm water, mix and soak up with a washcloth, apply cloth to the area(s) infected. Let sit for 5 minutes or until puss has drawn out, apply Tea Tree oil with a Q-tip to infected areas. (Do not pick at these, more bacteria will get into the follicle, making it worse).
* For swelling and redness, you may apply Arnica Gel or Cream. Ice may also be applied immediately after treatment.
* For scabs, apply Neosporin and/or Aloe Vera apply daily until completely healed. Hydrocortisone cream may be applied for 2 days only. (Do not pick your scabs you can create permanent scars).
* Avoid the Sun as much as possible. Side Effects may cause Hyperpigmentation. It is best to avoid the sun for 48 hours after permanent hair removal. After this time period, sun exposure is ok when a quality broad-spectrum SPF of 30 or higher is applied. The recommended amount to protect the face and body is 1 oz. (the size of a shot glass).
* Avoid Sweating.
* Avoid make-up. If you must, you may use brand new or sanitized brushes and sponges.
* Do Not Tweeze or Wax in between your Electrolysis treatments, you will defeat the purpose, these methods stimulate, while I am trying to destroy. You may shave, cut or use a Depilatory cream.
* Some re-growth is expected, this is normal, and some follicles need more than one treatment. You will notice the hair to be scarce over time and not as coarse, eventually eliminated.
